Wow! It's been a loong time since I've done this blog thing, so probably no one will read this but mom :) We have a new addition to our little family! Nathan Thad Thompson was born July 30th at 4:25 pm (the name came a day and a half later :)). He weighed 6 lbs 6 oz and was 17 inches long and the cutest darn thing you've ever seen!
We were a little surprised, since my due date wasn't until August 23rd! I almost didn't go into the hospital on Thursday because I thought they would just send me home again like they had the night before- I hadn't had any change in dialation then (still a 2) and my contractions were few and far between. But with a scheduled C-section, my Dr had told me to go to the hospital to get checked if I had any contractions. So the next day I called Thad just to complain that I was having some contractions and they hurt a little more, but I didn't want to go to the hospital because they would just send me home again. He didn't seem too worried either and said he would call me when he got back from lunch to see if I wanted him to come home. I told him to not worry about it- that I could wait till he got home from work later. Just to be reassured that I SHOULDN'T go to the hospital, I called my Dr who told me I should, then I called Charisse just to talk to someone to had a baby recently and knew what contractions felt like, who also told me I should go to the hospital. Reluctantly, an hour later, I called Thad to come take me to the hospital. When we got there around 2:45 they were super busy, so I almost told them "That's ok, we can come back later." But while we were waiting, I had a contraction that made my eyes a little watery, so I decided to stay for a minute. They put us in a room and I started crying and telling Thad this was silly and a waste of time and I just wanted to go home.( I was also crying a little because my contractions were starting to hurt. ) A nurse finally came in and hooked me up to the monitors and went to examine me. She looked at me and said "Well, there's a reason why they're hurting a little more than last night- you're dialated to a 7 !" I started crying again and told her "I'm not ready to have a baby, I have dishes in the sink at home." - of all the things to worry about- I had dishes on my mind. Nevermind the fact that we hadn't set up a place for the baby to sleep or packed any bags for the hospital.
Things happened pretty quick after that. They called my Dr and had me prepped for surgery in no time. The c-section went pretty quick and was a little amusing with my Dr giving himself props on "whoever had been in here last time did a pretty good job."
Since Nathan was a little early his lungs were a little underdeveloped so they had to put some surfactant in them to help him breathe easier. He was also hooked up to a C-PAP for a little while. He spent 5 days in the hospital in the NICU. He came home on Monday and has be on a little oxygen for a while to help him out, but is doing great! Jane loves being a big sister and is so good with him. I am doing amazingly well and even impressing Thad that I was up and about in the hospital the very next day. It is a completely different experience from my first Cesarean, which I am grateful for.
Aside from the lack of sleep and the messy house, we are adjusting well and can't believe we have 2 of the most adorable kids ever.
